How to get to Birmingham Airport by Car

Birmingham International Airport (BHX) is 8 miles to the east of Birmingham City Centre, which is also the centre of England’s motorway network.

It is situated on the A45 (Coventry Road) only a mile from junction 6 of the M42. From the M42 you have easy access to the M1, M5, M6, M6 Toll and M40.

Birmingham Airport is signposted from both the motorways and major roads. The new M6 toll road provides free from traffic alternative to the M6 between junctions 4 and 11.

Routes

If travelling from the North West (e.g. Liverpool or Manchester), using the M6, take exit 4A onto M42 towards M40/Solihull. Then take exit 6 onto A45 and follow the signs to the Airport.

If travelling from the North East (e.g. Leicester or Nott’s), the best route is the M42, exiting at junction 6 onto the A45 where you will easily be able to pick up the signs for the airport.

If travelling from the South, using the M40, take exit 3A onto M42 toward M6/Solihull. Then take exit 6 onto A45/Coventry Road where you will pick up signs for Birmingham Airport.

If travelling from the South West (e.g. Cardiff or Bath), take the M5 and exit at junction 4A onto M42 towards the M40. From here take exit 6 onto A45 and follow the signs to Birmingham Airport.

If you are travelling from the South East (e.g. Milton Keynes, Northampton), take the M1 exiting onto the M6 at junction 19. Then take exit 4 to the M42, then exit at junction 6 onto the A45 where you will pick up signs to Birmingham Airport.
