Birmingham Hotels

The range of hotels in Birmingham is impressive, from the backpacker's hostel where you can get beds from £15 per person per night, all the way to the splendour of the Hyatt Regency and the Marriott.

Budget Hotels

Probably the best budget hotel in Birmingham is Birmingham Central Backpackers.  This is actually a hostel, although there is a private room available.  New for 2008 are the pod rooms, these are essentially bunk beds in the pod.  They provide a locker and slightly more privacy than a normal bunk bed.  This hostel is also very well provided with facilities, the common room include a 4-foot television and various X-box and board games.  There is even a self-catering kitchen to help you keep costs down.

There are also numerous small bed and breakfasts available on the edges of the city.

Mid-Range Hotels

· Awentsbury Hotel, Serpentine Road, Selly Park, is a good mid-range hotel offering bed and breakfast and it is within easy walking reach of the University.  This is a lovely old Victorian house and prices start from £36 per person per night, including a cooked breakfast.

· There is also the ubiquitous travel lodge in Birmingham Central, a cheap and cheerful hotel right in the very middle of the city.  Depending upon the special deals available and how far in advance you book, it is possible to get some rooms for £10 per night but these are in very short supply!  A more usual price is £49 per night.

· Swallow Plough and Harrow Hotel, Hagley Road, Edgbaston, this is another good mid-range hotel it's near the Bull Ring shopping centre, the National Indoor Arena, and the International Convention Centre.  This is part of the Swallow chain and prices start from £60 per night.

Luxury Hotels

Three luxury hotels really stand out within Birmingham and they are mentioned below.

The Hyatt Regency Birmingham

This is a modern and luxurious hotel right in the city centre. It has a full range of both business and leisure amenities available including things like a spa package. This is a high-rise building and offers running views over Birmingham. Prices are difficult to judge, as there are plenty of special offers and packages that are always available including packages for a romantic getaway and a spa break.

The Crowne Plaza Hotel

This hotel manages to combine a good location, modern luxury, and yet it has landscaped grounds and overlooks a lake so you could be forgiven for thinking you were in the countryside rather than near the centre of a modern city.  It has all the usual amenities that you would expect including air conditioning. Once again, prices can be difficult to judge as there are usually special offers on but they seem to start at approximately £180 per person per night.

Birmingham Marriott Hotel

Birmingham Marriott Hotel is another centrally located luxury hotel.  This also has all the amenities you would expect for both business and leisure, including a full spa, swimming pool and fitness centre.  As with the other hotels, there are plenty of special offers available, and prices here start at approximately £150 per person per night.
